Patient Care Assistant (PCA)

Description Of The Program:

Patient care assistants (PCA) work in hospitals, nursing homes, doctors' offices and other medical facilities. They work directly with patients to take vital signs, help with hygiene needs and assist in getting lab specimens. They chart patient progress, organize patient supplies and do other basic tasks related to patient care. Hospitals are relying more and more on PCAs as nursing shortages grow. This program will prepare individuals to perform routine nursing-related services to patients in hospitals or long-term care facilities, under the training and supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Patient care assistants (PCAs) receive additional training that expands the traditional role of the nursing assistant.

Description of Unique Features Of The Program:

This program requires 120 hours of class time and 120 hours of lab or internship work.
